Dining Service Meal Plans

Dining @ EKU

There are lots of choices of where and when and what to eat on campus. Plus, we’re excited about our brand new dining facility currently under construction and scheduled to open Spring 2018. Walk around, ask around, and you’ll soon find your favorites. Here are your on campus options:
  • Fresh Food Company (Upstairs Powell - USP): Fresh cooked, all-you-care-to-eat, buffet-style meals.
  • Stratton Café (Stratton Building): May be EKU’s best kept secret. With a full salad bar, grilled items, a deli, and a home cooking station.
  • Chick Fil A, Subway, Twisted Taco (Fountain Food Court; Downstairs Powell Building - DSP): Signature and popular national brands.
  • Starbucks(Weaver Building)
  • Java City (Crabbe Library): Coffees plain and fancy, baked goods, salads and sandwiches
  • Einstein Bros. Bagels (Moore Building): Bagels, sandwiches, salads, drinks, fresh fruit, and healthy snacks.
  • Cuisine (Science Building):offering a wide variety of soups, salads, flatbread pizzas, signature selection sandwiches and wraps made to order.
  • POD Markets(located around campus - DSP & BTC). Combines the corner store with the style of a modern market, featuring grab ‘n go dining options for breakfast, lunch or any time of day, including: freshly-prepared breakfast sandwiches, burritos, wraps, sushi and salads, as well as fresh produce, bakery and coffee selections and traditional essentials found in a convenience store.
Many meals and snacks can be made to your specifications, including gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options. Consult Aramark’s Executive Chef for special dietary needs.

Meal Plans

EKU students manage expenses and enjoy healthy, nourishing meals that fit their lifestyles using a two-part meal plan, which combines meals at our “all-you-care-to-eat” locations and “Dining Dollars (Flex)” to be spent at any Aramark on-campus dining location. Both of these meal currencies start on the first day of classes each semester and are accessed through your activated Colonel1Card.

Who needs a meal plan?

Freshmen Commuters and Sophomores (Residential/Commuter)

All freshmen commuters and sophomore residential/commuter students enrolled in 5 credit hours or more on campus during the Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 semesters will participate in the Dining Dollars program. The Dining Dollars fee of $300 is billed to the student account automatically when the 5 credit hour criteria is met in the Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 semesters. Just like the meal plan, Dining Dollars is an account on the Colonel1Card. This plan is upgradable at any time during the semester.

Note: Additional funds cannot be added to $300 Dining Dollars (Flex) account.  If you would like to add funds to your Colonel1Card, you may do so with Optional Flex and/or Colonel Cash by logging into GET

The Dining Dollars program is designed to supplement a student’s campus dining needs. The $300 Dining Dollars equals about $20 per week or $2.86 per day. Dining Dollars can be used at all Aramark Dining locations and POD's.

Unused Dining Dollars roll from Fall semester to Spring semester. At the end of the Spring semester, freshman commuters and sophomore students who have been mandatorily assigned the $300 Dining Dollar (Flex) meal plan may request a refund of any remaining unused $300 Dining Dollar Funds.

This may be completed by logging into EKU Direct within a set time period during a 30 day period (May 15th - June 15th) after the spring semester has ended. All eligible students will be contacted via email with details. Refunds will be deposited according to the preferences (funds deposited to the Colonel1Card or existing checking account) selected when activating your Student ID with BankMobile. Those who have not activated their Student ID will receive a check at the mailing address listed with the registrar’s office.

Questions regarding a refund for this plan must be directed to EKU Card Services by calling 859.622.2179 or emails to: cardservices@eku.edu

Freshman Residential

EKU is committed to providing its students with a comprehensive educational experience. The University has determined that for most first year residential students, on-campus dining has numerous educational, social, and dietary benefits. In recognition of the value of the living-learning experience, EKU requires all residential students, with less than 30 earned credit hours, to participate in the 5 Day All Access Meal Plan.

Benefits of Freshman Dining Program:

  • Meeting New Friends…Dining Halls are great social centers.
  • Convenience…All on-campus dining locations are close to resident halls and academic buildings.
  • Value…Meals are sold at a discount and cost less than similar off campus restaurants.
  • An Advantage…Studies of college students across the nation consistently show that students who eat and live on campus are more involved, have higher grade point averages and are more likely to graduate than students living at home or off campus.
